NFC East division title Rams’ Chip Kelly: Chip Kelly is the NFL’s best player
The Rams are going to be better than their record suggests, with Chip Kelly as the NFL QB of the future.
In a league that has been trending toward quarterbacks in recent years, Kelly is going to go down as one of the top 10 players in league history.
His numbers on a per-game basis are going a long way toward justifying his status as one.
He’s got all the traits that made him a high draft pick, from a quick release and accurate mechanics to elite arm strength.
Kelly has improved as a passer and passer efficiency, and his overall skill set is now so similar to Peyton Manning that there’s a good chance that he will be able to play alongside Manning for years to come.
Kelly is not a perfect quarterback, of course, and he’s got some problems along the way, but it’s hard to argue with the record-setting QB that he is.
He has a career passer rating of 101.7 and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 1:19.6.
His best season was in 2010, when he threw for 4,927 yards and 23 touchdowns, but the Rams lost to the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.
Kelly’s career is just a little bit better than the average quarterback’s, but his best year was in 2008 when he had a passer rating and completion percentage of 93.9 and a yards per attempt of 1.9.
He is not quite as productive as Manning or Brady, but Kelly is still better than Manning and Brady, and there’s no question he will become even better in the future if he stays healthy.
Chip Kelly’s legacy will be measured in years, not in wins, and that’s good news for the Rams, who will look to continue to build a winning team with the addition of Kelly.
They’ve had some success, but they’ve also had some struggles and it’s going to take time for them to get back to where they were before Kelly’s arrival.
The Rams have had some solid draft picks along the offensive line, particularly inside linebacker DeForest Buckner, and they added offensive lineman Anthony Davis and defensive end Robert Quinn to complement the likes of Chris Long and Josh Mauro.
But they also got some great value in the draft with the fifth overall pick in 2017.
The Rams added running back Tavon Austin and receiver Jaelen Strong to give them some depth in the passing game.
They got a second-round pick in the 2018 draft, but that’s not as important in the long run as the third round.
This is the type of trade that can create a long-term, sustainable future for the franchise.
They have a quarterback with elite talent, and if they continue to make progress, they can be contenders in the NFC East.
The most important thing to remember, however, is that the Rams are not in a position to lose their playoff hopes just because Kelly was on the roster for the entire season.
They are in a great spot right now.
